How to quote Epic of Gilgamesh
Jan 30 2008, 12:35 AM EST Do we cite the Epic of Gilgamesh as a classic poem, an anthology, or a holy text (like the Bible)? And how do we cite the line breaks within the text? Thanks! Do you find this valuable? |

RE: How to quote Epic of Gilgamesh
Jan 30 2008, 2:42 PM EST You cite the work according to which version of the translation you are using/quoting from. If you happen to be using the online version, cite the work as a electronic resource. If you're using an anthology that contains Gilgamesh, then cite it as an anthology. If you're using a hard copy of the Epic, cite it as a translated book. Make sense? If not let me know and I can provide more clarification. Marlo 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jan 30 2008, 2:56 PM EST "And how do we cite the line breaks within the text? Thanks!"Here's Ivo's (Miano's TA) answer to this question from the discussion board. see http://www.atfreeforum.com/ucsdmmw/viewtopic.php?t=97&mforum=ucsdmmw "In a lot of our classic poem readings (e.g. Antigone) there will be (unfortunately) no line numbers (usually there are, but in these editions they don't have them). So, you can do two things: either just cite the page and have NO line number OR count the lines from the top of the page and write THAT as the line number in addition to the page. But it's perfectly fine if you do it the easy way, and have NO line numbers. We blame it on the editions. Smile" 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
